Overnight train travel is basically like traveling in a hotel on wheels. Someone else is doing the driving and the cooking, and no matter what the passenger is doing, progress is made toward the destination!

The Dalphin, Manitoba train depotAfter traveling for a while, it is enjoyable to get out,and walk around a bit. The train steward announced the approaching towns in both French and English to alert passengers that may be arriving at their destination. When possible, we took advantage of the stop to explore!

In my last post I showed you the one-person cabin. My friends from Knoxville, Billie Cantwell and Colin Leonard, reserved a three-person deluxe cabin. The cabin had space for several seating options and a table, a closet for storing clothes and luggage, a toliet with a door that remained accessible when beds were pulled down by the cabin attendant, and a larger sized window!

Above Colin visits my cabin, which offers a seat for one visitor (the cushioned toliet seat!) and below, I visit their cabin, and find a bench for two and two additional chairs!

You will find more details for cabin options at the VIA Rail website: classes and train cars.
