Forget-me-nots

Silently one by one, in the infinite meadows of heaven,
Blossom the lovely stars, the forget-me-nots of the angels.
--Henry Wadsworth LongfellowA woman said to me, “I need to get away, go somewhere and figure out who I am.” And I thought, that could be a nice break, but what I hear in those words is ‘more of the same’. We do not discover who we are by thinking or even going someplace new to think. We take whoever we are with us and repeat what we know in our minds.

If you want your life to change, if you want to experience something different, you must do something different. Action invites discovery. It is in doing a new thing, in trying a different way that we discover who we are, where we are stuck, our attitudes, our true values--and only then, if we act with awareness. Everyday is full of new discoveries--we only need to pay attention.

  1. Oh everything you wrote here is so true Vickie...it was big in the 80's to 'go find yourself'... what a crock! ...

find who you are at home, try new ways to think, read, explore... look back at the philosophers, challenge your own thinking on what is right...look at other religions, buddhism for example...talk (more importantly listen) to others ideas, these are the things i do...

I did smile at the forget-me-knots..Ive embroided them for years and had never seen a real one...how dainty and beautiful

  2. Yes, so true. Its always enlightening to open your mind, to challenge your way of thinking and consider something new. When it fits, it will integrate; if it doesn't it will fade. But we are always richer and wiser for the experience.

For the Love of It...

...the sage sees heaven reflected in Nature as in a mirror, and he pursues this Art, not for the sake of gold or silver, but for the love of the knowledge which it reveals.

"There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action; and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. If you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. You must keep that channel open. It is not for you to determine how good it is, nor how valuable. Nor how it compares with other expressions. It is for you to keep it yours, clearly and directly." ----the great dancer, Martha Graham
